One step closer to integration and multiculturalism

BRUSSELS.- Mahinur Özdemir is the first woman to use veil in the Parlament of Brussels. With the deputy of Ceuta Fatima, are the only women to use “hiyab” in one politician building as the Parlament. She is the one who use this in a Parliament in Europe land.

Mahinur Özdemir was yesterday the main person in the parlament. It was the first woman with veil elected by people to take part of the Parliament in Belgium. It is not the first muslim who is elected, but it is the first with “hiyab”. With only 26 years old, is the youngest member of the Parliament, but now it´s new around the media because of the veil.

“The voters are the ones who have brought me this far, but this does not mean I will work only for some, I will work for everyone”, Özdemir said after the elections.

The next member of Belgian Parliament, Mahinur Özdemir.

That action shows Belgium as a country with integration and multiculturalism. The regional parliament in Brussels yesterday erupted in applause when Mahinur Özdemir took the oath of office on the Belgian Constitution.
